A tough question with mixed results. The answer is yes, and no. Let me explain…
While an electronic cigarette may be illegal to use indoors in some states, in other states it isn’t. The cause of course is smoking bans which include electronic cigarettes. See, many states are already classifying electronic cigarettes as a tobacco product. Being that they’ve been put in this class, they’re also being included in bans that prohibit tobacco smokers from smoking indoors, such as restaurants, retail stores and like the most recent, the Starbucks smoking ban, which also included e-cigarettes.
It’s a bit hard to escape how electronic cigarette are portrayed. The majority of them look very similar, they produce a cloud like smoke (vapor in this case), you can hold them the same way, put them to your lip and inhale, so it’s understandable for them to link the two in the same category – but at the same time, it isn’t. When using an electronic cigarette, you’re getting the same cessation, but without the 4,000 chemicals found in tobacco cigarettes. And, just because it contains nicotine doesn’t mean it should be labeled as the same.
Though the e-cigarette may be illegal to use in some indoor locations, the joke is on them because not only have many users reported that they can go between longer times without having a craving after making the switch, but they’re also one step ahead by being respectful towards others.
Rather you’re allowed to use an electronic cigarette indoors or not, it always comes down to respecting others. If you are put into any position where you think it could possible make others around you uncomfortable, then it’s probably not a good idea to use your e-cig at that moment.
