Posted this somewhere else, but thought I'd post it up here since it is my story of starting vaping, enjoy!

I'm 235 and I started smoking when I was 124. It all started back when I was a young healthy wizard and exposed to rigorous spell making, I took up a nasty habit of smoking from my wooden pipe. Back then tobacco that was around was not very good but having no experience with anything else I would just keep puffing away. I tried to quit a few times but the stress caused from battling dark wizards was just to much and unfortunately, it never happened. After I finished my studies with the honorable Nicolas Flammel, I figured it was time for a career change and decided to do something a little less rigorous and became a cowboy.

Well you can imagine how that went in regards to smoking, everywhere I looked, all the cowboys were doing it. I smoked heavily while fighting the stone cold warrior natives and between showdowns at dusk and robbing trains, quitting just never crossed my mind. Soon enough though lots of my bronco bucking friends started dying and people began referring to our hand rolled paper cigarillos as cowboy killers. A name we used to reserve for the local saloon's secret fire whiskey mix. My best friend at the time, a tough kid named Billy, ended up dying in a horrific gun battle with the sheriff which left me broken and alone. Once again I decided I couldn't deal with living that life style and moved to a safer place and switched jobs.

I moved to Florida at the young age of 209 and became an astronaut, something I had been dying to do for quite some time. On our first mission to Mars, the crew caught me attempting to utilize a home made cigarette contraption to light up on an evil emphysema cylinder. I was kicked off of the ship and left stranded there to be taught a lesson. That lesson was to never call a martian a dingle berry. He pulled out his disintegrator and blasted me on the spot. Luckily enough, through the powers that be, I was reincarnated in the land of the last place I had been on Earth prior to my demise.

When I was 14 years old in my new life I started smoking at school more so to fit in than anything and also because of the light-headed feeling I got when I would inhale the cigarette smoke. Well that feeling was short lived and before I knew it I was smoking a half pack a day of newports. I am 25 now and before I recently quit I had moved from a pack a day of the standard cigarettes to a pack a day of Black and Milds(5 cigars) The reason I started smoking blacks was because I made a fals realization that smoking only 2 single cigars a day, would be much better for me than a pack of cigarettes. I then progressively moved up to 5 a day, which turned out to be much worse than when I tried quitting the first time.

Less than a year ago I tried out an e cig at the mall and I quite liked the experience of the device but the price, not so much. I waved off the technology and said screw it, smoking is cheaper and forgot all about the whole e cig thing. I recently moved to Kansas and when I started going to the smoke shop around here I saw a starter kit and prefilled carts for sale. Remembering back and pondering the future of my personal health I decided I wanted to live out my life to it's fullest potential. I thought about why in the world would I participate in something so disgusting and destructive as smoking. It was time to take matters into my own hands and end this foolishness once and for all. I then inquired into starter kits offered at the aforementioned smoke shop and the guy at the counter shared all the knowledge he had with me. Even though he didn't know much and I left knowing no more than when I first went there, I now realize owe him my life because he was the one who pushed me to learn more about vaping. I used my black belt in google fu and soon found various resources to help me achieve my new healthy beginning. I then bought an Ego starter kit and the rest was history. I quit smoking on the spot, the first day I started using my pv.

I'm sure glad I made the switch from smoking to vaping, the best part is the food I've been eating is tasting better than ever! I've also noticed that I have not been coughing up anything funky since I've been vaping and I now have money to spend on healthy things I've been forgoing such as protein shakes, fruit snacks and supplements! Thanks to whomever it was that created these wonderful devices and thanks to the people that take the time out of their day to develop places such as here where like minded people can get together and help beat the addiction.

Sorry for the long winded back story but I thought it was necessary to explain my extensive background so that the full understanding of the entire picture could be properly envisioned by those participating in the reliving of my youthful upbringings. *Events accounted for may vary slightly in the way events took place. Happy vaping everybody!

Almost a year ago, I had been trying to quit smoking with no success. Then hubby came home one day talking about an electronic cigarette he saw at work. I started doing an internet search and came up with a company that seemed pretty good. We spent our entire months cigarette budget and bought two starter kids. KR808 style. From the day we started vaping, we have not had a cigarette at all :) Since then, I have gravitated to bigger batteries - ego style, go-go - and hubby has stayed with his stick 808's. I have never used a mod pv and have wanted to. Hubby has been laid off for 4 months now, and if it wasnt for the fact that nicotine liquid is so much cheaper than cigarettes, we would be in major nicotine withdrawls by now!! I have less than one month to go for my one year smoke free anniversary and a new LavaTube woud be a great way to celebrate!! :)

Thanks for the contest!

I started smoking in college - smoked for about 15 years. I heard about vaping about 3 years ago ordered a 510 kit and have been vaping ever since. The day after I got it I took 1 drag of a analog and put it out and haven't had another since... In a few months I hit my 3 year mark :)

So i started smoking about a year and half ago due to relationship problems. I was smoking a pack about every week and half. Started on parliments, then quit for 3 motnhs then moved to Dunny's. The reason i decided to switch was because my grandfather whom i never got a chance to meet dies from lung cancer, my other grandfather died from lung cancer and a stroke the same way when i was only 15 years old. My father never smoked a day in life but ate poorly and past away last year from a heart attack and stroke. I was leaving my house and he thought he was home and went ot his room and saw him in his bed, and tried to wake him up and nothing he was already gone, i called my sister and she came over and dialed 911 and she wanted to see him laying in his bed and i had to be the good younger brother and stop her so wont she that image of our father. I carry that image with me everday and I will never foget it. I know he woudl not like me smoking beacause his father past away from it, my grandfather i never met but wish i did. I know he would be proud that i have switched to ecigs since theya re a lot safer, even though nicotine can restrict and thin the blood vesels, it sbeats tar and the other 4000 chemicals in them, and that can always be worked out. Ecigs gave me more energy and i feel much better about myself. I know my dad would be much happrier. I also know iw ant to be arounf long enough to see my grand kids.

First time poster...lol

I started smoking when I was 15, 31 years ago. Been full time almost all of those years. Discovered Ecigs back in late 2009. I have 3 different kinds including the EGO and I havent really found that perfect one yet.

I have learned that cartomizers are way better than attys.

These days, I go half in half. Half a cigs and half e cigs.

One more thing, on that day I started smoking, it was my birthday. I totally forgot it was my birthday. Me and a buddy were like 9 blocks away smoking under a bridge next to a creek. lol
If I had known then that I had an addictive personality, I would have never started. :(

Hi well my story I started smoking when i was 11 just after i lost my dad on Halloween the year before i started... my dad was my world and it started with a smoke here and a smoke there... then it became 1-2 packs a day... when i was 22 i quit for a year mostly because i became pregnant and the smell made me sick.. as soon as the sickness went away i was back at the 1-2 packs a day... it was hard raising a child with out wanting a smoke hanging out of my mouth while she was around and for the most part i was a single parent. i would go out side and pray that she sleep long enough for me to finish the smoke... i was so paranoid about the chemicals that may be on my clothes that i would hurry and shower and change clothes just so those chemicals didnt transfer to her... 3 years of doing this and my husband came in to my life and it made it easier to sneak out and have a quick smoke and clean up before i needed to check on her... well my daughter is 13 now but i had a major health scare... i have problems with my back so they did a x-ray and on the x-ray it looked like there was a spot on my lungs so we went up state which is about 4 hour drive to get it checked out and i was told the same old story next time i may not be this lucky ... well what i was hearing was yada yada yada... my husband how ever was hearing every word said...

On our way home we stopped at this little gas station just before the Mountain range that we had to drive over to get home and they have the greensmartliveing e-cig there...and after my husband trying to talk me in to getting it i finally gave in and we bought it that was back in August I have been smoke free since that little thing... it was not the best but it got me looking in to other things i from there found the LUX and after about a month one of the batteries died but hay one still works ... lol and after several disappointments with e liquid from a few different supplies i finally found one that is good for me... so there's my story long winded and not very explanatory but its my story

Glad I caught this before it closed...

Started late in life...age of 28 in grad school. Actually, it was the flavored Swisher Sweets that led to menthol cigs. I was an on/off smoker. I would smoke for 3 months and stop for 6 months. This led to the illusion I was not really smoker and could stop anytime.

Over the years, my period of ON lasted longer and longer. I also stopped for years at a time as well.

It wasn't until I really tried to quit that I experienced that awful loss of control feeling. I was an addict. I read, The Easy Method to Quit Smoking and stopped for years then moved from CA to TN. I started again due to stress living in 40 degree temps INSIDE my home. Could not pay power bill and chose to feed my dogs over my heating comfort.

I moved overseas to work in the Middle East and took the habit with my until 6 weeks ago when I discovered vaping. Smoke free since and thanks to this forum for all the support.

Yes...I need a PV being out of work. :) Thanks for the opportunity.

Started smoking in college as a social thing. It evolved from there. My dad was a lifelong smoker and had to have surgery on one of the major arteries in his neck. Now he's only got one functional one left and it's partially blocked. His circulation is terrible all over his body. Those reasons were enough for me to start vaping.

The earliest age I remember smoking was 12yrs old. Me and my brothers used to smoke moms' buts she'd leave in the ash tray or sneak out a cig from her pack at fist then we started buying our own. At this time the old cigarette machines were still around; I even remember buying from one in the hospital lobby so there was no problem with kids buying cigs at that time if you had the money. Lol, if we didn't have money we'd find some wild tobacco(rabbit tobacco) and roll it up in a piece from a paper grocery bag. 33 years later I was at almost 2 packs a day of LM light and feeling the effects of smoking on my health. My youngest son asked me to stop smoking so I did on his 18th B-day using the nic. gum and lozengers and I tried very hard to stay a non smoker, but failed within a few months. I struggled for over 2 years with trying to stop the cancer sticks using the nic. gum and lozenges only to sneak and smoke and always return to my trusty LML lights during stress. I'd come to the point where I couldn't do any strenuous activity and lay in the bed and wheeze and cough at night.....oh and ever smoker knows what the mornings are like the disgusting smokers cough! I had heard about ecigs before but never gave them much though until I saw Johnny Depp with one in a movie so after that I bought my first ecig in April 2011 and it worked. I have only had one analogue cigarette since because of dead batteries and in a place I couldn't recharge but now I'm more prepared to make sure I have a charged battery at all times. That one slip up changed my stop smoking date from April to May and that cigarette tasted nasty.. I can honestly say that I do not crave or want a cancer stick since switching to the ecig and I can do what I used to do without getting out of breath, no more nightly wheezing hacking or coughing. I really don't miss the disgusting morning hack routine either. I really feel younger and I know I smell better! It is amazing how much my smell and taste has improved after the switch but I haven't gained weight with ecigs like I did with the other nic. alternative aids. I believe anyone can stop smoking if they switch to vaping! If I can I know you can to!
