Fazed wrote:I was given 3 weeks lead time on the enclosures from the machine shop. So no pics for a bit on the fazed box.

So in the interim, I'm going to go over choosing an off the shelf enclosure and types that work well for modding, what kind of chips you can choose from and the pros and cons of each one.

I'll also touch on basic wiring and soldering techniques.

This will be a series of written and illustrated blogs that will hopefully be helpful to those of you wanting to try it yourself.

I can not wait to see the videos. I love to tinker and I am going to make the Vape-apocalypse one as soon as I get home. Or I might see if I can borrow the tools from someone here at the RV park I'm staying at and make it sooner

Wow, looks very exciting! Can't wait to see a finished product with both chips. I'll tell my Dad to put up your pics on http://nivelchip.com if that's ok with you.

The DNA20 is $50 the Nivel is $70. 510 connectors are about $2, if you want a drip well, you can make one out of a #12 finish washer ($2/pack), price of buttons range depending on what you get, but say you get the mad vapes variety, you are looking at about $10, you'll need a micro USB charging board $8 from evolve, cheaper elsewhere, several colors of #24 and #20 ga wire (price is variable depending on quantity, and where you buy it, but lets say $20). Then you need batteries. Price for those varies depending on what you get. LiPo RC hobby batteries can be found pretty cheap and come in various sizes. if you decide on using removable IMR's you increase the price a bit because you'll also need parts for holding them in. Lastly the enclosure... here you are limited only by your imagination. You can get a cheap plastic project box from radio shack for a couple bucks, or a nice aluminum enclosure from a place like Hammond for $15-30 ( I recommend using one with a removable lid or clamshell because its easier to work with). Other things you'll need are incidentals and tools. Soldering iron, solder, flux, heat shrink tubing, etc.

It would also be wise to get a breadboard (solderless circuit board) to mock up your system to ensure everything works how you want it to before you do something permanent you can't change.

I'll have more specifics in the blog. Watch for the 1st one later today.
