An age old question for many, are electronic cigarettes FDA approved yet? In fact, the FDA has announced that they plan to regulate the vapor emitting products, but have taken no action as of yet.
Many products are under review, but with electronic cigarettes they are currently biding their time. There’s quite a lot that goes into approving a product millions of Americans will be using each day. It isn’t just a case of ‘ok, they work, approved!’.
“As the safety and efficacy of e-cigarettes have not been fully studied, consumers of e-cigarette products currently have no way of knowing whether e-cigarettes are safe for their intended use, how much nicotine or other potentially harmful chemicals are being inhaled during use, or if there are any benefits associated with using these products” reads a statement on the FDA website.
There are a handful of scientific studies that support electronic cigarettes, but FDA has yet to take them seriously. While the electronic cigarette industry does lack much needed approval and regulation, some users are taking it into their own hands and have joined together to self regulate the manufacturing standards of e-liquid. These users aren’t sitting on the bench waiting, they’re being proactive, approval or no.
In conclusion… electronic cigarettes may not be FDA approved just yet, but many people swear by them.
