Utah Vapor Stores Implementing Age Scanners
In Utah, anyone under the age of 19 who buys or attempts to buy, accepts, or has in the person’s possession, an electronic cigarette will be labeled as guilty of a class C misdemeanor and subject to pay fines and appear in court. As you would expect, the store who sells an electronic cigarette to an under age person will suffer much worse consequences.
With that said, I-Vape, an electronic cigarette store in Utah, is taking it one step further with the prevention of selling to minors by implementing a device that can read the back of a drivers license bar code and will then notify them with a red or green light if the person(s) are above the age and eligible to purchase their products.
Many convenience stores who sell tobacco or even electronic cigarettes are still manually reading a birth-date and calculating if a buyer is above the age of 18, and unfortunately this leaves room for human error. This is why I-Vape will begin using these age scanners as early as April. Source says that all 30 retailers part of Utah Vapers will implement the new scanners.
The Utah Vapers has been working with a leading scanner manufacturer in Utah to introduce a custom programmed device for the e-cigarette industry in the state. Custom programmed for ages 18, 19, & 21, the scanner will take human error out of the equation of ID checking protecting you from costly fines, penalties and help protect your business reputation by avoiding underage sales. – Utah Vapers Website
