University of Kentucky Again Chooses Agenda Over Truth
In an email sent out today by President Eli Capilouto of the University of Kentucky to students, faculty, and staff of the University, Dr. Capilouto reaffirms the University’s stance on classifying electronic cigarettes as a tobacco product, and as thus their use is verboten anywhere on campus. The email seems innocuous enough and the full text of it is included below:
What isn’t so innocuous is the embedded link to the tobacco free policy. Again, that link can be found here. What you see is the main tobacco policy page with a nice little YouTube video at the top. The video published on September 14th, 2012 comes almost a month after CASAA sent Dr. Capilouto a 26 page letter refuting the junk science proffered by Ellen Hahn, and the Kentucky Center for Smoke-free Policy (KCSP), which is based at the University of Kentucky.
What is even more interesting, is the FAQs tab at the top of the page. When you scroll down to the “Why are ecigs included in this policy?” The reader is treated with the same Anti-THR (Tobacco Harm Reduction) lies and misinformation that prompted the response from CASAA in the first place. Lies about anti-freeze in the eLiquid, cancer causing nitrosamines, and best of all the claim that “E-cigarettes are currently banned for import by the FDA.” Say what again? The full ecig FAQ is below.
To bring everyone up to speed. The President of the University of Kentucky is aware of the science. He is aware of the misuse and manipulation of information put out by the KCSP office because CASAA took the time to inform him. Again, nearly a month after the letter was delivered, and the University stated that the matter would go before the Ethics Review Board, he goes on record supporting the untenable position of Ellen Hahn and her KCSP cronies. What further proof is needed to conclude that the University of Kentucky is more interested in their Anti-THR agenda, than the truth? There is also a link to “proven cessation methods” given in the FAQ. It would appear the University’s ties to Big Pharma go deeper than just KCSP’s office.
The slogan for the University of Kentucky is “See Blue.” Thanks to President Capilouto’s letter in support of junk science, lies, and manipulation regarding THR, all the vaping community sees is RED. Good job UK on aspiring to be a top 20 research institution. You still have such a long way to go.
