By now, many individuals know that the FDA will be hosting a public hearing on December 17th.  The hearing is designed to offer members of the public an opportunity to weigh in on nicotine replacement therapies and smoking-cessation products.  It seems the domineering topic will be how the FDA should regulate electronic cigarettes.

This will undoubtedly become a heated discussion.  Tempers may flare.  Some of electronic cigarettes’ biggest proponents and adversaries will be there to make statements.  Good luck to all the pro-e-cig folks.  We hope you’re bringing your A-game.

Riccardo Polosa is the man behind the first global electronic cigarette cessation study.  He hails from the University of Catania in Italy.  He won’t be at the event in person, but we do have the statement he’s sending to the FDA in light of the hearing.  Check it out.

Polosa’s study will soon be published and we’ll have full coverage of the results.

” It seems the domineering topic will be how the FDA should regulate electronic cigarettes.”

Or, *should* they regulate e-cigarettes? I believe they should not regulate them at all beyond whatever age-limits may be required. Regulation of e-cigarettes by the FDA seems to be a foregone conclusion by some, which really is a shame….

I absolutely LOVE seeing stuff like this. Seriously. Having big people back this and do studies only helps us! Thanks for sharing

I hope the vaping community has arranged for some of our supporters to be there.

It makes me laugh how the FDA is sooooo worried about how to control e-Cigs. Whats the big deal anyway? What all of a sudden they worry about nicotine and our health? But its ok to allow cigarettes!!!!????
They should be HUNG for allowing cigarettes to be sold knowing they are killing people.
The FDA allows the sale of cigarettes for Government gain of taxes/MONEY!!!
I thing they have a hell of a nerve now wanting to dip into ecigs pretending they give a rats behind about how it affects peoples health. We all know their just looking for more MONEY.
I say we smokers and x smokers should gather together and SUE THE FDA FOR KILLING US!!!!!

                  One More Thought…
If the FDA had half a brain, theyde fully allow ecigs, since they already know the sale of cigarettes in the US has dropped dramatically in the past four years. They are LOSING A TON OF MONEY!!!
eCigs will soon take over, and this is where the money will be!!!! Lorilard or who ever just bought Blu eCigs. Do they need a MAP????
To me the whole thing is a Big Farse!! A Joke….and an Insult to the average American Intelligence.
I only wish I could be there.
Id be the biggest mouth in the place, and Id like them to try and argue with me. I cant stand the game playing. And further more, not allowing under 18 to use ecigs is like posting a sign, HEY KIDS, YOULL HAVE TO KEEP SNEAKING YOUR PARENTS CIGARETTES OR BUY THEM ON THE STREETS.
eCigs would prevent them from going to cigarettes in my thinking! But no…..dont give them an a healthier option.
I see more kids smoking than adults!!! Lets face the facts.
No Laws Are Going To Stop Kids From Smoking If They Want To.

I don’t see what the big fuss is about. Everyone knows they are safer than actual cigarettes and until there is a ban on cigarettes there is no way they should be able to ban vaping. It is just rediculous.

when the argument for harm reduction hits the slippery slope and the never-smokers get the floor, it will turn very “us and them” very quickly…

Although I don’t want to see ecigs banned, I do approve of some sort of regulation as a consumer. As of right now, we have AEMSA, newly organized trade organization, which have set forth compliance rules for merchants of e-liquid. Only those who belong to AEMSA are either following or working towards meeting these requirements. It is a mystery as to how e-liquid is being produced by other vendors.

I know from CASAA’s Youtube video posted by Michael Cozzi, many of the medical professionals as well as board members of CASAA will be there at the hearing, and hopefully, the FDA will not be swayed by Big Pharma’s money.

The government is interested in getting their hands in to ecigs to charge a sin tax. At least that is how I feel. They want to make money and regulate everything.

it’s great that he included the bit that a ban on ecigs in public places isn’t warranted…

at the end it all but begs for FDA regulation which can be both a good and a bad thing for vaping… i think we should be prepared for juice prices to rise significantly due to taxation within the next year or two and depending on how tight regulation is, this could drive a lot of small vendors out of business through licensing fees and processes and facilities/production requirements…

Sadly Professor Polosa will be burned alive at the academic stake for making perfect sense for his letter to the FDA.

Where can we get a thousand more of him?
